THE BAND’S VISIT

Photo: Ahron R. Foster

Tony Shalhoub and Katrina Lenk, who starred in the off-Broadway premiere of The Band’s Visit at the Atlantic Theatre Company, will reprise their performances for the musical’s Broadway debut at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre.

With a book by Itamar Moses and a score by David Yazbek, The Band’s Visit is based on Eran Kolirin’s 2007 film about an Egyptian Police Band that arrives in Israel to play a concert. After a mix-up at the border, they are sent to a remote village in the middle of the desert. With no bus until morning and no hotel in sight, these unlikely travelers are taken in by the locals. Under the spell of the desert sky, their lives become intertwined in the most unexpected ways. The Band’s Visit celebrates the deeply human ways music, longing and laughter can connect us all.

The Band’s Visit won TOP HONORS at the 2017 Lucille Lortel Awards, Outer Critics Circle Awards, New York Drama Critics’ Circle Awards and Obie Awards. Here are just some of the RAVE reviews:

  • The New York Times Critics’ Pick
“THE SHOW ABOUNDS WITH SIGNS OF NEW AND EXCITING LIFE IN THE CONTEMPORARY AMERICAN MUSICAL! ONE OF THE SEASON’S MOST EXQUISITELY WROUGHT SCORES. THERE’S NOT A PERFORMANCE, OR A SUNG NOTE, THAT FEELS OUT OF KEY. THE MUSIC TAKES ON A TRANSCENDENT HARMONIC SHIMMER THAT STOPS THE HEART.” – Ben Brantley, The New York Times
  • “THE SEASON’S BEST NEW MUSICAL! THIS PERFECT JEWEL OF A SHOW could not be a better agent of hope in a time desperately in need of it. THE SHOW FEATURES THE BEST SCORE YET FROM DAVID YAZBEK. THE BAND’S VISIT IS VERY, VERY IMPORTANT.” – Jeremy Gerard, Deadline
  • “IT DOESN’T FEEL LIKE ANY MUSICAL EVER. It doesn’t sound like anything else you’ve heard. PERFECT is the wrong word for such an unusual musical, but it will just have to do.” -Jesse Green, New York
  • ★★★★  “The Band’s Visit is REMARKABLY FRESH AND REVELATORY. We leave the Atlantic Theater with our SENSES FLUSH AND TINGLING.” – David Cote, Time Out New York

METEOR SHOWER

Meteor Shower is a hilarious new play written by the comedic legend, Steve Martin. Meteor Shower will feature the Broadway debut of film and television mega-star, Amy Schumer, film and television star Keegan-Michael Key (Key & Peele), two-time Tony Award winner Laura Benanti, and film and television star Alan Tudyk (Dodgeball). The show will be directed by multi-Tony and Drama Desk Award Winner Jerry Zaks (current director of the current smash hit, Hello Dolly!).

Meteor Shower follows a woman and her husband (Schumer and Tudyk) who invite over an intense couple (Key and Benanti) to watch a meteor shower in their Ojai, CA yard in 1993 – until things take a turn for the surreal. These friends aren’t looking for a casual evening of polite small talk with new friends. Eventually, the two couples find themselves in a marital free-fall matched in velocity and peril only by the smoldering space rocks tearing through the sky. Entertaining has never been more entertaining than in this cosmic comedy from the master of the American absurd.

METEOR SHOWER begins preview performances on November 2, 2017 at the Booth Theatre, 222 West 45th Street, New York City with Opening Night on November 29, 2017.

ON YOUR FEET!

The new hit Broadway musical about life story of GLORIA and EMILIO ESTEFAN.

ON YOUR FEET! is a true audience pleaser – a love story about two people who believed in their talent, their music and in each other, and fighting against all odds became an INTERNATIONAL sensation.

ON YOUR FEET! is a happy, inspirational musical that will have audiences laughing, crying and on their feet dancing for sheer joy!

ON YOUR FEET! is the Estefan’s love story for music and a love story for this country that gave them so many opportunities. Gloria Estefan has sold over 100 Million records and sold out stadiums around the world. Emilio and Gloria Estefan have won 26 Grammy Awards, but their music is only half the story.

ON YOUR FEET! is a rags to riches story that everyone can relate to including some of the most iconic songs of the past quarter century including “The Rhythm Is Gonna Get You”, “Conga”, “Get On Your Feet”, “Don’t Want To Lose You”, “1-2-3”, and “Coming Out Of The Dark”, among many other favorites as well as new songs that have been written for this show.

ON YOUR FEET! boasts a creative team to match its incomparable song list, two-time Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell (KINKY BOOTS) directs a cast of 20 with choreography by four-time Drama Desk nominee Sergio Trujillo (JERSEY BOYS) and an original book by Academy Award Winner Alex Dinelaris (BIRDMAN). In addition, band members of the original Miami Sound Machine will be playing with our show’s orchestra.
Here are some of the RAVE reviews:

  • “Resist if you dare! A salsa-splashed showcase of the dance-floor hits and swoony ballads that made Gloria Estefan and the band Miami Sound Machine a radio and MTV staple, ON YOUR FEET! roars through the up-tempo dance numbers with swirling skirts, swiveling hips, and a crackerjack band. Josh Segarra brings a forceful magnetism and swarthy good looks to Emilio Estefan. The very air in the room seems to vibrate in this fresh, flashy and undeniably crowd pleasing new musical!”-The New York Times

 SOMETHING ROTTEN!

  • Tony Award winner, Christian Borle, Best Featured Actor in a Musical
  • Drama Desk winner for Best Featured Actor in a Musical – Christian Borle

From the co-director of “The Book of Mormon” and the producer of “Avenue Q”, comes something original… something fresh… Something Rotten!

A world-premiere musical comedy about the musical comedy that started it all. Welcome to the ’90s – the 1590s – long before the dawn of premium tickets, star casting and reminders to turn off your cell phones. Brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom are desperate to write a hit play but are stuck in the shadow of that Renaissance rock-star known as “The Bard.”

When a local soothsayer foretells that the future of theatre involves singing, dancing and acting at the same time, Nick and Nigel set out to write the world’s very first MUSICAL! But amidst the scandalous excitement of Opening Night, the Bottom Brothers realize that reaching the top means being true to thine own self… and all that jazz.

With its heart on its ruffled sleeve and sequins in its soul, SOMETHING ROTTEN! is an uproarious dose of pure Broadway fun and an irresistible ode to musicals – those dazzling creations that entertain us, inspire us and remind us that everything’s better with an exclamation point!

  • “YEP, THIS IS A BLOCKBUSTER! IT BRINGS DOWN THE HOUSE!” –The New York Post
  • “SOMETHING ROTTEN IS THE PRODUCERS + SPAMALOT + THE BOOK OF MORMON x THE DROWSEY CHAPERONE SQUARED” –New York Magazine
  • “5 STARS – BROADWAY’S FUNNIEST, SPLASHIEST MUSICAL COMEDY IN AT LEAST 400 YEARS!” –Time Out
  • “I SMELL A HIT” –NY 1
  • “ORIGINAL AND HILARIOUS! EMBRACE THE EXCLAMATION POINT!” –Deadline
